Planteray Isle Of Fiji Rum
*Plantation Rum has changed name to Planteray Rum. From the pristine lagoons to the lush jungles, Plantation Isle of Fiji is an ode to the beauty ofthe Fiji Islands. This delicious rum is made using traditional techniques and local Fijian sugar cane. First aged in this tropical climate in bourbon casks, the rum is then sailed to the southwest of France for a second maturation in French oak casks. This double ageing method paired with Fijian know-how creates a rum with warm notes of exotic fruits and raisin. Intense nose, it starts on molasses, pear and varnish. It then becomes fruitier and spicier on apple, banana and gooseberry, also nutmeg and vanilla with a hint of smoke. Rich and round palate, it follows the nose with vanilla fudge, honey, ginger and fruity notes of prune and coconut. Very long finish of dried banana, bourbon and allspice.
Plantation Rum
Plantation is the rum arm of Alexandre Gabriel’s drinks empire. He’s the man behind Pierre Ferrand Cognac house and Citadelle Gin. Plantation owns the West Indies Distillery in Barbados, and also bottles rum from around the Caribbean and beyond. Wherever they are from, all the Plantation rums go through a double-ageing, so first in the hot climate of Caribbean or wherever they are distilled, and they are shipped to France for some cooler climate ageing, sometimes in ex-Cognac casks. As well as being a distiller and entrepreneur, Gabriel also a keen historian of drinks, delving into the archives and sniffing out old recipes and techniques which he then recreates in modern form. One such bottling Plantation Stiggins’ Fancy Pineapple Rum made in association with Dave Wondrich and inspired by Reverend Stiggins from Charles Dickens’ The Pickwick Papers.
Isle of Fiji is a great sipping rum.
