Château Picoron is a vineyard and winery located in the Bordeaux wine region of France, specifically in the Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux appellation. Known for producing high-quality wines, Château Picoron showcases the potential magic of the Merlot berry, which is typical for the region, but that is where the 'typical' ends. The work in the vineyard and winery is done by hand and through creativity and self expression the vinification challenges traditional methods. Camille, the wine maker, believes when it comes to producing wine less is more. Less additives, less intervention and less attempts to change what nature is. The wines are produced sustainably using organic practices, without animal products and with minimal intervention. Visiting a winery and engaging directly with the team offers amazing insights and understanding of wine produced, from vineyard management to the final product in the bottle.

The 4.5 hectares of vineyard rape around the Chateau. The wines are vinified plot by plot, without blending, to produce only a few hundred cases. The result is the true expression of the terroir and the famous St Emilion clay limestone ridge.

At Château Picoron, the dedication of Camille and her team to adapting to changing climate conditions and market demands whilst staying true to their commitment to low-intervention winemaking is clear to see. There is an obvious identiy running through all the wines which not only showcases the merlot grape but also reveals the diversity and complexity that can be achieved from a single variety when such care and attention is applied at every process. I was even won over by the PET NAT which is one method im yet to fully embraced, in fact I would say I have a certain level of distain for. The Tattarrattat Merlot is a classic example of Chateau Picoron's innovation. Fermented and preserved naturally using carbonic maceration the wine is full of juicy red fruits, sour cherry and crunch red apple notes. Each year Camille has made improvements in the vineyard and the winery the results of which are shown in the quality of the wine and we cant wait to show you the 2023 vintage!
