*Plantation Rum has changed name to Planteray Rum. The 2015 relaunch of Plantation Original Dark Rum. With a new recipe, this is a blend of rums from Barbados and Jamaica which then blended together and aged further in Cognac casks, which should impart some fruity richness to the expression... – designed to be more approachable and suitable for use in cocktails. The rich and intense style of Jamaica and Barbados, with their notes of plum, banana and vanilla, is enhanced by meticulous blending and further maturation, in France. The result is a profound structure spiced with notes of cinnamon and clove, whose smoky quality adds texture. On the nose hints of black peppercorn, clove, cinnamon, baked cherry, prune, molasses; later sniffs encounter forest, leaves, black tea, dry stone. The palate is fruity with white raisins, dried pineapple, and is off-dry. midpalate is spicy, piquant, minerally, and significantly drier than the entry stage. Ends spicy. texture.d you really get the full flavours coming through.

Plantation Rum

Plantation Rum

Plantation is the rum arm of Alexandre Gabriel’s drinks empire. He’s the man behind Pierre Ferrand Cognac house and Citadelle Gin. Plantation owns the West Indies Distillery in Barbados, and also bottles rum from around the Caribbean and beyond. Wherever they are from, all the Plantation rums go through a double-ageing, so first in the hot climate of Caribbean or wherever they are distilled, and they are shipped to France for some cooler climate ageing, sometimes in ex-Cognac casks. As well as being a distiller and entrepreneur, Gabriel also a keen historian of drinks, delving into the archives and sniffing out old recipes and techniques which he then recreates in modern form. One such bottling Plantation Stiggins’ Fancy Pineapple Rum made in association with Dave Wondrich and inspired by Reverend Stiggins from Charles Dickens’ The Pickwick Papers.

A superb well structured rum, great with a mixer or perfect in a cocktail. Such as...
